THEATRICAL BIOMECHANICS WITH MASTER GENNADI BOGDANOV, LONDON 2010

At the beginning of June, Proper job was ecstatic to be welcoming back Master Gennadi Bogdanov to deliver a two week intensive workshop in Basic Level Biomechanics. The workshop marked the beginning of Proper Job’s new relationship with London’s Courtyard Theatre and our first steps to bringing our work to The Big Smoke.

The workshop reached full capacity due to the high demand for the specialist performance technique. Thanks to everyone who participated in the workshop the standard was high; with people displaying Herculean endurance under the pressure of the Master!

The group was an interesting mix of performers and directors, both beginners and the more experienced in their craft, reflecting the method’s broad range of appeal.

James Beale and Chloe Whitehead, Directors of Proper Job and formally Talia, are former protégés of Master Gennadi Bogdanov, the last living link to Meyerhold. Their years of dedicated biomechanics training put them at the country’s forefront of training in the method.

James and Chloe can run both beginner and advanced workshops in the biomechanical technique as part of performing arts, community arts and drama degree courses at Huddersfield, Lancaster, Liverpool and Newcastle Universities. Proper Job also organises its own training for actors in Manchester, Huddersfield and London.

These programmes are delivered as a platform for more intensive work with Gennadi Bogdanov here in the UK and with him in Perugia, Italy.

The Gennadi Bogdanov workshops are part of his international course, in partnership with Micro Teatro Terra Marique - International Center of Theatrical Biomechanics
