LAB WELLBEING

A THREE TO FIVE SESSION COURSE HELPING PARTICIPANTS TO IDENTIFY WHAT IT IS THEY WANT, WHERE THEY WOULD LIKE TO BE AND TAKE PRACTICAL STEPS TOWARDS GETTING THERE

LAB Wellbeing is based on NEF’s five ways to well being: Connect, Be Active, Take Notice, Keep Learning and Give. Supported by their peers and experienced LAB Project staff, this course will help participants take the first steps to a more positive future that they have chosen for themselves.

LAB Wellbeing is aimed at adults who can self identify mild to moderate mental health and wellbeing problems. It is possible for individuals to take part in both the LAB Project and LAB Wellbeing

"Proper Job play a crucial role in achieving better health outcomes for participants of their projects, particularly around improving their resilience and emotional health and wellbeing. This contributes to the goals of the local Health and Wellbeing Strategy which are improving health and reducing inequality. Proper Job are a hugely valuable resource for our residents."

Tony Cooke - Head of Health Improvement, Kirklees Council

LAB VOLUNTEERING

AT PROPER JOB AND IN PARTICULAR ON OUR LAB PROJECT WE WORK CLOSELY WITH A NUMBER OF VOLUNTEERS WHO ARE INVALUABLE TO THE WORK WE DO

At Proper Job we recognise the value of volunteering as a positive step towards employment as well as developing self esteem, helping individuals progress. On LAB Volunteering learners will be given the skills they need to be assertive, valuable and move forward in a volunteering role.

The course will also give learners the opportunity to find a volunteer placement which best suits their needs and interests.

"After being a participant and volunteering on The LAB Project I have gained a new sense of who I am and what I`m capable of. My confidence increased immediately and I have gone on to do other training and volunteer work with Lifeline Kirklees as a Community and Recovery Champion. Volunteering with Proper Job and the LAB Project spurred me on to decide what my future career would be. I have now passed the Level 3 in Education and Training, the first step to my plan of being a teacher/tutor in Adult Education. My advice to new volunteers would be to, open your minds, have a plan of where you want be and learn all you can from the staff and other volunteers on The LAB Project, oh yes, and enjoy it all!"

Tutors focus on developing the core skills that learners need in order to succeed in their next steps. As a result, learners improve their self-esteem, develop new interests and demonstrate an eagerness to improve their lives further. For example, at the end of their course, learners on accredited programmes perform in a drama production at local schools. The production is linked closely with the school curriculum on citizenship and helps to tackle misconceptions about older people among school children. Learners make positive contributions to the education of children in their local community.
