THE LAB PROJECT
"The LAB has given me confidence, self-belief, self-esteem, a routine and a lot of hope for my future."
The LAB Project has been running for 25 years, working with people who are unemployed or on low income, providing intensive, short courses which look to improve learners’ confidence and communication skills, as well as their overall wellbeing and self-esteem. Each course then has an additional, unique theme
Support to Succeed members can access the LAB provision exclusively in a variety of ways, tailored to their specific need and where they are on their own, personal journey. Opportunities include:
-
A chance to visit our Brunswick site and discuss the provision and their situation one-on-one, with a member of our engagement or delivery team.
-
Taster Sessions with a smaller group of learners, giving you an opportunity to work on some confidence boosting activities while sampling what we do
-
Priority Access for our longer one- or two-week LAB Courses, either on site in Brunswick or online via Zoom.
-
IAG and progression support from our trained staff, including support from other partner organisations.
As with the rest of our LAB Courses, Support to Succeed members can access a variety of incentives and rewards, including support with travel costs, gift vouchers, and certificates upon completion.
Contact your Support to Succeed Keyworker to be referred, or you can email ManchesterLAB@properjob.org.uk for more information or to get involved.
Working Well: Support to Succeed - Delivered by LAB Project
Supporting Nikaha to build her confidence
Nikaha joined the Support to Succeed programme as she was unemployed and spent a lot of time at home.
She was referred to the LAB Project via her Support to Succeed keyworker and attended a short taster session. Despite being unsure of what to expect, she participated in the session and agreed to do a further course.
Nikaha has now completed three courses with the LAB Project, attending sessions to improve her confidence, communication, self-esteem and wellbeing. Nikaha met her goals of building her confidence, talking in groups and improving her communication skills. She engaged with other learners on the course and got to know more about their lives and journeys.
Since completing three courses with the LAB Project, Nikaha has lined up an opportunity with Volition Manchester where she will do some volunteering.
Nikaha said "When I first came to the taster session, I was quite quiet and didn't know what to expect, but now I feel more motivated, I want to be outside more, to enjoy the weather and to meet new people and do new things. The tutors were very helpful, encouraging me and giving me confidence to feel comfortable in new surroundings and to open up.
